On Oct. 3rd-5th, Saint Vincent College (SVC) hosted its annual Homecoming weekend, inviting students, alumni, and families back to campus for its festivities. Every year, one of the most anticipated events is the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, and this year was no different. At halftime during the game against Case Western Reserve on Saturday, Oct. 4th, the Homecoming court was presented, and the Queen and King were crowned.

Every year, the seniors nominate their classmates based on who they believe reflect the Benedictine hallmarks, and those nominated are elected to the court. The students elected this year were Colt Easterling, Hope Farley, Reese Gadsby, Andrew Gelin, Lance Hall, Malley Kotula, Jakob Krumenaker, Kyle Murray, Julie Peterson, Grace Scoville, Kennedy Sheriff and Braden Thomas.

Reese Gadsby and Kyle Murray were crowned Homecoming Queen and King.

“It was such a good honor, and the people I were surrounded with were just great,” Gadsby said, when asked about her time on the court. “So many of my best friends I was on court with, so it was just a great experience for all of us, sharing it with each other.”

Murray is a nursing major from Altoona, PA., and captain of both the football and tennis teams. He plans to join the US Air Force or work in an ICU after graduation, with the hopes of pursuing anesthesiology. Gadsby is a biology major and writing minor from Mercer, PA, and she is a member of the basketball team. She recounted her experience being named Queen.

“Honestly, I was so happy for Kyle, because he just needed that, and it was just so good for him. All the girls were standing there, we were like, ‘we’re going to start crying right now’. And I feel like I didn’t even realze whenever they were calling my name. But it was great. It was just such an honor. And I heard all of my teammates, I have a video of them just going crazy on the hill. So, you know, it was great being surrounded by so many people,” Gadsby said.

Gadsby will be graduating this year, and she plans to attend dental school to become a pediatric dentist. As for the underclassmen of SVC, she lends you some advice.

“Have so much fun and say yes to everything. Be kind. And I have met some of the best people in my life at Saint Vincent, go out and just meet people. Go out and branch out and just have the best four years because it really does go by so fast.”

And her advice to the future Homecoming court?

“Just be yourself.”
